Marking the 100th anniversary of Czech independence, the Pacific Symphony will perform Antonín Dvořák’s New World Symphony. Conductor Carl St. Clair will explore three historic links between the United States and the Czech people via the popular symphony. First, Dvořák’s remarkable journey to the United States helped to identity a unique American voice. Second, some 25 years later, America played a central role in the creation of a new democratic nation in the heart of Europe. Finally, a new Orange County institution, Pangea World, explores and expands the wealth of knowledge between nations today.
